Foreclosure filings up 25 percent locally

DAYTON — More than 5,000 new foreclosures were filed in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court in 2006, a 25 percent jump over the previous year.
On Thursday the Supreme Court of Ohio released its court activity data for the state's 88 counties. The figures revealed a 23 percent statewide jump in new foreclosure filings in 2006 over 2005.
Since 2001 foreclosure filings across the state have risen 89 percent, according to data.
In Montgomery County, filings have climbed by 61 percent during the same period.
In 2006, 5,076 new foreclosure cases were filed — a 25.3 percent increase over the 4,050 new filings in 2005. All told, 7,139 cases were filed last year, which include cases which were reactivated and carried over from 2005. The total filings represent a 22.2 percent increase over total 5,839 cases filed in 2005, according to the data.
